Why is the Holiday Tax a bad idea?

• Families will pay more. You will pay an extra charge for every night you are away, and for a family of four on a summer holiday, it could add over £100 to the bill.
• It hits children hardest. Families don’t take one-night trips. A per-night tax adds up fast, and a percentage charge will add most to breaks in the school holidays.
• Jobs are at risk – Around 3.5 million people rely on hospitality for their jobs – many are young or part-time workers at holiday parks, hotels, cafes, pubs, restaurant and attractions. Higher prices mean fewer visitors and fewer jobs.
• Local communities lose out – When accommodation costs more, visitors spend less during the day. Tourism is one of our most important employers, from big cities to coastal and rural communities – and this will take cash out of the tills of local employers.
