3 Riverside

Caldbeck
Sleeps 4
Bedrooms 2

3 Riverside is a newly renovated 18th century house, set in a terrace of pastel shade cottages just behind a small beck and strip of green, complete with a weeping willow. The owners have taken great care to create a lovely homely feel and to ensure comfort throughout. Imagine returning here after a day on the fells - fire up the log burner, get the kettle on or pop a cork and sit back, perhaps with the thought of wandering over the road to the village pub (beer garden if it's warm...).

Downstairs is decorated in muted tones and divided between the cosy lounge, and the open plan kitchen / dining area. The lounge has a great logburner, smart TV, and comfortable seating for four. The kitchen has contemporary style fittings with good storage cupboards and worktops. There is a comprehensive inventory of equipment and all the conveniences you would expect. Upstairs to the two bedrooms, one Kingsize and the other standard double; both rooms have solid wood furniture. The house bathroom has a very good-size walk-in shower and a crisp modern look, with tiling throughout.Guests who may have a pet allergy can be assured that dogs are not permitted here.

Although it is possible to park right in front of the property, it is much easier park on the free village car park which is just 50 yards away. The front of the house faces east, so you can step out in the morning for an al fresco brew on the bench, and enjoy the sound of birdsong, the breeze in the weeping willow, and the tinkle of the flowing beck.

If you've never ventured this far north in the Lake District, you've missed a trick. Here, in Caldbeck, you have a beautiful old village that has retained its pub, shop and a cafe, and is surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills and is within easy reach of the northern fells such as Skiddaw and Blencathra. What you don't have in this neck of the woods, are crowds. You will be delighted by the empty roads, and a more traditional rural way of life, when compared to the busier parts of the Lakes. Check out the view of the setting for 3 Riverside, and you can imagine yourself in one of those idyllic days in England that you'll always remember. Friendly locals are happy to see you here and you'll wonder why you've never been here before...

Caldbeck

About the location

Caldbeck is set at a mid-point between the northern fells of Skiddaw and Blencathra, the Solway Coast, Carlisle, and Penrith. Caldbeck village is nicely self-sufficient and is blessed with a great pub, village shop (with petrol/ diesel pump), and a crafts centre with cafe. Handsome 18th century cottages are strung along the village roads, and the surrounding countryside is all rolling, partly wooded hills, with public footpaths aplenty. A favourite walk from the village is to 'The Howk' which is a limestone gorge, complete with waterfall set in deep woodland. There are many footpaths in the area and the famous Cumbria Way passes through the village. For when the weather is not so great, a day in historic Carlisle or Hutton in the Forest is recommended.

For those aiming for the high fells, Caldbeck is on the northern side of Blencathra and Skiddaw.

Despite the quiet rural atmosphere, Calbeck is easily accessed from the M6 - around 20 minutes from Junction 41 of the M6. Other easily reached locations include:

Bassenthwaite Lake (20 minutes)
Carlisle (25 minutes)
Penrith (25 minutes)
Keswick (30 minutes)
Pooley Bridge (30 minutes)
Solway Coast at Silloth (30 minutes)
