Bell Cottage is a lovely, comfortable traditional cottage that is perfect for a couple wanting to explore the northern Lakes. The property is dog-friendly (throws, treats, balls, and water bowl provided) and less than five minutes walk to all the pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, and independent shops of Cockermouth.

You are well located for the short drive to Keswick or the majestic western fells around Buttermere. The coast and great beaches are only 20 minutes away. If you are a cyclist, there is handy, secure storage at the property and plenty of quiet country lanes to explore, which lead to wonderful country pubs and gentle countryside. The open lounge is comfortably set up with a sofa and has a cute dining table for two. There is a great 50" smart TV for evening entertainment.

Upstairs to the spacious bedroom with dual aspect windows, views of the churchyard, a king-size bed, a built-in wardrobe, and plenty of drawer storage. The en-suite has an electric shower, toilet and basin.

Ground floor
  • Open-plan lounge and kitchen. The lounge area has a two-seater sofa, coffee table, small dining table and chairs, 50" Smart TV with streaming apps (own log-in required), WI-FI router, and electric log-effect fire.
  • The kitchen area has an electric oven and induction hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, 4-slice toaster, microwave and kettle, and plenty of cupboard storage.
First floor (12 steps).
  • King-size (5ft) bed with two bedside cabinets, chest of drawers / dressing table and wall-mounted mirror. Velux window with electric remote control blind closing.
  • En-suite bathroom has a shower enclosure with an electric Mira shower, basin and toilet.
Outside
  • Two steps to the front door with external dusk-to-dawn light.
  • Attached lockable outbuilding for storage of bikes - could contain two bikes easily.
  • Bed linen, towels and essentials provided.
  • Modern electric radiators throughout and a positive ventilation system (provides a gentle supply of fresh air).
  • Hot water for washing up supplied by fast-heating immersion heater.
  • Being an old property, the staircase has a few narrow steps on the turn of the staircase taking you up to the en-suite bedroom. Therefore we don't recommend this property for infants.
  • Within 50 metres, there are several parking options. Free parking is available on the cobbled area (spaces adjacent to the road edge) on a first-come, first-served basis. Disc parking (time-limited) is available on the street and in two car parks, one of which is long-stay pay and display.
  • Smoking or vaping is not permitted.
  • Up to 2 small dogs or one average size dog are permitted (£10 per dog), but the throws supplied must be put on the sofa and dogs must not be allowed upstairs.
  • Dog treats, balls, and bowl supplied.
  • Tea, coffee, and sugar sachets provided.
  • A Henry vacuum is stored in the bedroom wardrobe.
Cockermouth

About the location

Set on a residential road close to Cockermouth town centre with a choice of parking options, some free (first come, first served), and there is long-stay parking available at cost in the public car park around 50 metres away. Walk over the nearby footbridge to the town centre to be spoilt for choices for cafes, restaurants and pubs.

Cockermouth is a traditional Cumbrian market town with independent shops, the Kirkgate Arts Centre (theatre and cinema), some great riverside walking and less of the tourist bustle of Keswick (which is only a 15 minute drive away). Your pooch might enjoy a run on the beach at Allonby, which is a 20-minute drive away. There are regular bus services to Keswick or the west coast. Walkers will have easy access to the fells and lakes of the northern Lakes. Buttermere, Crummock Water, and Lake Bassenthwaite are all just a short drive away with prime fell walking routes, which are just a bit quieter than the central Lakes.
