Brookside

Patterdale (1 mile) is a picturesque village situated southern end of Ullswater Lake. Patterdale can be reached by combination of a public footpath and roadside pavement - note there is one short section of 150 metres without pavement and you need to cross the road a few times to join sections of pavement. No street lights in this area. Patterdale village benefits from two pubs, The White Lion, and Patterdale Hotel, and a pretty church, which is a favourite starting point for walks. The 508 Bus Route operates between Patterdale and Penrith via Pooley Bridge, and seasonally, between Penrith and Windermere/ Bowness via the Kirkstone Pass. There is a bus stop for the seasonal service just a 10 minute walk from Brookside.

Adjacent to Patterdale, within walking distance, is Glenridding Village and the Glenridding Ullswater Ferry Landing. You can hop on board one of the Steamers to Howtown or further to the northern shores of Ullswater Lake at Pooley Bridge.

If you'd rather walk the fabulous Ullswater Way footpath, you can do that from the property via linking paths that join to the route that hugs the eastern shore to Pooley Bridge via Howtown. Patterdale, and nearby Glenridding, are the starting points for several popular fell walks, including the Striding Edge path up to Helvellyn, Place Fell, High Street, Glenridding Dodd, the Helvellyn range, Fairfield and St Sunday Crag, so you'll be spoilt for choice! Closer to home, Brookside is at the end of the stunning Deepdale valley, which makes for a marvellous 'quick blast' of majestic mountain scenery and fresh air straight from the door in around a 30-minute walk.

The famous village of Ambleside is a 30-minute drive away, over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, where you have a variety of pubs, restaurants and cafes. At the northern tip of Windermere Lake, you can again hop on board one of the Windermere Cruise Boats to Bowness Pier, or further to Lakeside at the southern tip, where you'll find the Lakeside Aquarium and Haverthwaite Steam Railway,

Rheged near Penrith is a great rainy day option. There you will find exhibitions, a giant cinema screen, artisan food, craft shops, and cafe.
