Damson Cottage

Crook
Sleeps 2
Bedrooms 1
Dog Friendly

Damson Cottage is situated on a quiet lane in the picturesque hamlet of Crook, a lovely one-bedroom cottage, part of a cluster of white-washed stone buildings dating back to the 17th century when the property was originally a local mill workers' cottage.

The gorgeous stone building has been refurbished while maintaining several original features, including exposed beaks and the interior gable-end stone wall.

The "upside-down" property consists of the entrance hallway leading to the double bedroom - a lovely room with fitted wardrobes and French doors leading to the outside rear of the property. Also on the ground floor is the bathroom. It should be noted that Damson Cottage doesn't have a walk-in shower. However, guests have the use of the hand-held shower extension if required.

The spacious open-plan living area with a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams is upstairs. To one end is the living room, with comfy sofa seating and armchairs to relax while watching a film or reading a good book. On warm days, open the windows and enjoy the sounds of birds chirping or sheep... making sheep noises.

To the other end of the living area is the modern kitchen, equipped to make cooking a meal a breeze. For casual meals, the breakfast counter is a great space; however, for a more romantic occasion, why not set the dining table and treat your loved one?

Of course, if you don't fancy cooking at all - you are on holiday after all - then stroll up the lane to The Sun Inn at Crook, a fantastic traditional pub serving great food. Alternatively, Bowness and Lake Windermere are just 4 miles away, where you will find a variety of eateries, pubs, cocktail bars, shops and Bowness Pier, where you can hop on board one of the Windermere Lake cruises.

Damson Cottage is a beautiful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of busy lives, yet close enough to the central Lakes to explore all the area offers.

Crook

About the location

Crook is a pretty village on the edge of the Lyth Valley, surrounded by rolling hills and countryside landscapes. Halfway between the market town of Kendal in one direction and Bowness-on-Windermere in the other, you can enjoy a rural retreat while being close enough to the popular attractions.

Walkers and nature lovers will find the many walking and cycle routes a joy to explore, many starting right from the cottage's doorstep and meandering through the Lyth and Winster Valleys. Guests may also enjoy walking to other nearby villages, such as Staveley (2.4 miles walk) on the banks of the River Kent, where you will find a choice of small shops and the famous Mill Yard, formally an industrial powerhouse but now home to the Hawshead Brewery and Beer Hall and Wilf's Riverside cafe (they make an excellent all-day breakfast!) and a few other retail outlets.

A little farther at 4 miles is Bowness-on-Windemere - a trendy tourist resort year-round; here, you'll have no difficulty finding exciting places to visit, including the Beatrix Potter Attraction and the Windermere Lake Cruises, where you can hop onboard one of the boats and sail south to Lakeside for the Lakeside Aquarium and Haverthwaite Steam Railway, of north to Brockhole Visitors Centre and Ambleside, also a wonderfully famous town.

The local 599 open-top bus service connects from Bowness to local towns by road, alternatively walk-down to the Ferry and cross to the western shores of Windermere for Hawkshead, or stick to the Lake Shore and take in the incredible scenery as you walk along to Wray Castle.

All-in-all, you're sure to have a wonderful time in the Lake District, especially when Damson Cottage in Crook is your home away from home.
