Garth Cottage is a luxurious four-bedroom holiday cottage at Storrs Park, one mile from Bowness-on-Windermere. The house has been richly decorated and beautifully styled with opulent textures, bold colours, and high-end fittings to provide a fabulous self-catering holiday cottage for family or friends near Windermere and the Lake.

The ground floor offers plenty of space for all to enjoy, starting with the spacious lounge with gorgeous sofas and armchairs, a log fire, and bay doors leading out to the patio and the established gardens. Secondly, there is the garden room with a sliding door onto the patio and a cosy snug with a gas fire.

Planning a family meal? No problem! The large dining room and the large kitchen, with an Aga plus a gas hob, will allow you to cook up a superb family meal. The kitchen also offers a casual dining area with fabulous garden views—perfect for a morning cuppa.

Upstairs are the four beautiful bedrooms; there are three king-size double bedrooms (two of which are en-suite) and a twin with two single beds. Quality bedding and comfy beds make for a peaceful sleep.

Storrs Park is a small hamlet conveniently situated just a few minutes from Bowness-on-Windermere and within easy reach of several country pubs. All the bedrooms and living rooms benefit from beautiful views of the garden, the fells or both.

We love the fabulous colours throughout the house, and the living room with the log burner is stunning!

Ground Floor

  • The sitting room has comfy sofas and armchairs, a log-burning fire (starter pack of kindling and logs provided), smart TV, Sonos sound system and French doors leading to the rear patio and garden.
  • Kitchen with built-in double oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, Nespresso Coffee Machine, island with three-ring gas hob and an AGA with extractor hood over. A large bay window with seating overlooking the garden and a door leading out to the garden.
  • Dining Room with sizeable 8-seat dining table and matching dresser units. Views over the fields to the South Lakeland fells.
  • Snug with a gas log-effect stove and comfy sofas - restful space to unwind with a good book or play games (there are games in the cupboard for your enjoyment). Archway leading to the Garden/TV Room.
  • Garden/TV Room with more comfy sofas and a smart TV (ideal room for kids while adults are in the sitting room). Sliding patio doors leading to patio area.
  • Ground-floor WC and washbasin lead to the utility room with a tumble dryer and an additional large fridge.
First Floor:
  • Bedroom 1 - en suite with a king-size double bed, built-in double wardrobe, brilliant fell views and a glimpse of Lake Windermere. Sliding door to a large balcony which gives an even better view of the fells and Lake Windermere. The en-Suite comprises a three-piece suite of Mira shower, washbasin and WC. Shaving point, heated towel rail and extractor fan.
  • Bedroom 2 - en suite with a king-size double bed, a floor-to-ceiling window to showcase the view, and a built-in double wardrobe, and the en-suite comprises a 3-piece suite of shower, washbasin and WC. Heated towel rail, shaving point, extractor fan and fully tiled walls.
  • Bedroom 3 - King-size double bed and built-in wardrobe.
  • Bedroom 4 - Twin bedroom with two single beds. Built-in wardrobe.
  • House bathroom - Comprising a large walk-in shower, washbasin and WC. Fully tiled walls and underfloor heating.
Outside:
  • Locally sourced slate chippings cover the drive to the front with parking for up to four cars.
  • The rear garden is a good-sized manageable area amounting to over 1/3 acre, a large paved patio with an outdoor dining table and chairs and a significant level lawn. A charcoal BBQ is available for guests' use. Outside tap for muddy boots and muddy paws!

  • Please be aware of the raised patio area, which does not have railings.
  • Bedding, towels, a starter supply of wood, kindling, and firelighters for the log burner, washing liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea, instant coffee, sugar, and 8x pods for the coffee machine are provided.
  • Locally sourced, Bath House soaps and lotions are provided for all guests.
  • While babies and toddlers are most welcome, please note that neither cots nor high chairs are provided.
  • Parking is available for up to four cars. The garage is not available for guests to use.
  • Changeover days are Monday or Friday; short breaks are available in the low and mid-season.
  • One well-behaved dog is permitted (but not on the furniture or the beds). Additional dogs may be accommodated subject to size and breed - please enquire before booking.
  • Note: A section of the rear garden is temporarily cordoned off until the Spring to allow the grass to regrow following the installation of a new septic tank.

About the location

Storrs Park is a desirable residential area within easy reach of popular towns and villages, including Bowness-on-Windermere, popular with visitors from around the world due to Beatrix Potter attraction, the wealth of excellent eateries, pubs, cocktail bars, attractions and of course, the variety of boat trips and boat hire options available.

From Bowness, you can sail on one of the cruise boats to Brockhole (home to the Brockhole Visitors Centre and the high-wire Tree Tops experiences) and further to Ambleside. Here you will find even more attractions, eateries and gastropubs. Alternatively, sail south to Lakeside to visit the Lakes Aquarium and the Haverthwaite Lakeland Railway.

The car ferry crosses Windermere Lake, frequently linking visitors to Near Sawrey on the western shores of Windermere. Here you find country pubs, Grizedale Forrest, home to Go-Ape and woodland sculptures, as well as Beatrix Potter's Hill Top House at Far Sawrey.
