Riverside Cottage is a traditional, two-bedroom white-washed cottage situated in the pretty village of Seathwaite, six miles into the beautiful Duddon Valley, flanked on either side by fells, making it an excellent choice for a holiday in the Lake District.
The Duddon Valley is locally known as the "Jewel in the Crown of the Lake District", primarily due to the fabulous scenery visible from all the windows of this newly-refurbished Lake District Cottage.
As you enter the cottage into the living room via the grand stone-built porch, you'll notice that many of the original features have been thoughtfully retained, including the original slate floor, wooden beams and the window seat with a view of Caw Fell. The large log-burning fire and comfy sofas make the living room a wonderfully relaxing space to enjoy after exploring the Lake District or perhaps just stopping in for the day. There are over 200 books to choose from and a selection of games and DVDs available.
Also on the ground floor, leading off from the living room, is the dining area with a dining table and chairs, and a cast iron feature fireplace, and the kitchen, complete with modern appliances, including an electric oven and hob perfect for cooking up a family meal, and a dishwasher for the aftermath. After all, who wants to be washing dishes on holiday?
Adjoining the kitchen is a casual sitting area looking out over farmland and a meadow to the river Duddon. Imagine sitting with a cup of tea in the morning, watching the birds feed and the grazing sheep wander. The large garden to the rear is accessed via French doors off the kitchen, and guests have use of the outdoor furniture.
On the first floor are the two lovely bedrooms, with views of the fells and the countryside, a king-size double, and a twin (which can be made into a super-king double on request). An optional pull-out bed in the twin bedroom is available for a young child. On the landing, outside the bedrooms, is a shower room with a walk-in shower, toilet and basin, and heated towel rail, and a second bathroom with a roll-top bath, basin, toilet, and heated towel rail.
Overall, Riverside Cottage is an excellent choice for family holidays or a getaway with friends. The location is also ideal for visiting many South Lakes towns and Villages, including Coniston, Newby Bridge and Windermere.
Riverside Cottage is next door to Duddon View. This is a fantastic option for two families to holiday together while keeping an element of privacy. The gate between the courtyard of Duddon View and the large lawn garden of River Cottage can be opened to provide easy access between the two properties.
