Carlisle

The “Great Border City” Carlisle was a former Roman settlement, established to serve the forts on Hadrian’s Wall

Carlisle is the only city in Cumbria. The city centre is largely pedestrianised and the Lanes shopping centre is home to around 75 stores.

It boasts a compact historic centre with a castle, cathedral and semi-intact city walls, as well as other medieval buildings including the Guildhall and Tithe Barn.
